Hafla Party!

personal post.

A few nights ago Erin invited me to her Hafla (Arabic dance party). She has been taking belly dance lessons for a year or two now from Yasmine I always enjoy pretty much any kind of performance, and end up leaving with a desire to learn how to do whatever it is I just watched. Whether that be belly dancing, acrobatics, opera singing, ballet… it never matters what it is, I want to try it too!

If I took belly dance classes, I think I’d want to take the “American Tribal Style” because I have always loved their colorful outfits…

Here are some of Erin…

They had some rather interesting dance moves.

I loved all the colorful scarves (or whatever they’re called) used in this dance…

After the performances, it was a free-dance. Erin loves to shake it…

I loved the colors of this outfit.

And, even though she didn’t have the traditional garb on, she was shakin it too!

And here is Erin’s lovely roomate Briana. She will be hiring me to do portraits of her to send in to Millionaire Matchmaker soon!

And here is Erin’s little sister, Jenny. Jenny is a costume designer and made the red harem pants Erin is wearing in an hour the day before the show!

And I’m also excited because Jenny said she was going to make me a couple of surprise covers for my Shootsac! As much as I love some of the original cover designs made by Shootsac, even on sale, they are a little pricey. (Actually, it’s not so much the cover, but the shipping cost! I was so excited about one cover that launched and went on sale a few months ago… I had it in my online shopping cart and had my credit card out to pay until I realized shipping was only 5 dollars less the cost of the item) Don’t get me wrong, I absolutely LOOOOOVE my shootsac so much, and I want it to have the coolest brand name clothes out there, but when it comes down to it, the business could use a few other gadgets first.

In other news, since this is a personal post, I will talk a little bit about what’s coming ahead in the next month an a half for me! I a super excited because….. ONLY 29 DAYS UNTIL EUROPE ‘08!!! I will hopefully be able to blog while I am overseas, so be sure to check often to find out what we are getting into. We have a general itinerary, but not many details. More info to come before we leave!

First I have to get Disney World out of the way. I haven’t been to Disney since I was in 8th… maybe 10th grade, but it’s hard to get really excited about Disney, when just a couple weeks after that I’m going to England, Amsterdam and Prague. Oh, that and the fact that I’m going to be a chaperone for a high school senior trip. No, I’m sure it will be fun. 3 parks in 2 days and no sleep! It will be nice to hang out with my friends Sara and James. Aren’t they cute?

Sara’s mom is a high school English teacher in Charleston and takes her seniors to Disney for Grad Night every year. She asked Ben to be a Chaperone also, but he has so many projects to finish up for his art classes this semester that he has to stay behind. Isn’t he stylish in his woodshop gear?

As soon as I get back from Disney, I am looking forward to my next shoot which will be of an adorable little brother and sister. We were scheduled for last week but the weather got so bad so fast, so keep your fingers crossed for a beautiful weekend next week.

On a last note… Corey is knitting me the most perfect scarf! I photographed her wedding back in October. I read her knitting blog, and several months ago she posted about a cool yarn website called the Loopy Ewe. Of course I took a look and fell in love with the most beautiful silk/wool yarn…

Here’s a pic of what she has so far… it’s so colorful!!! I think this is it any way. It doesn’t quite look like the same yarn in the picture above but what do I know?

Well, that’s it for what’s going on in my life right now! Until next time….
